Pioneer, 171727. 38 th Division Signal Company, Royal Engineers. Died 2 February 1917, aged 26. Born: Macclesfield. Enlisted: Stockport. Son of William Wooliscroft Jepson and Sarah AnnJepson, 12 Norris Avenue, Stockport. Buried in Willow Grove Cemetery, Stockport.

The name of Harold or H Jepson is commemorated on three memorials in the Macclesfield area.

Had two brothers serving in the Army.

Records of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission indicate he “came from Detroit to enlist”.

Son of David & Margaret, Llys Tecwyn, Penrhyndeudraeth. Buried in Picquigny British Cemetery, Somme, France.

WILLIAM JONES

Private, 424974. 1 st Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion. Date of death (cause unknown) 15 September 1916, aged 35. Born: Beaumaris. Son of William & Jane, 14 Elmfield Road, Davenport, Stockport. Buried in Courcelette British Cemetery, Somme, France.

Reporting his death in its edition of 13 September 1917, the Stockport Express reported that his mother was living in Beaumaris, Anglesey; his brother in Winnipeg and sisters in Stockport and Rotherham.
