John and Eliza Bailey had married in 1877 and lived for many years at 134  Shaw Heath, Stockport. When the census was taken in 1901, it notes he was working as cashier at a hatworks and that 10 year old Archibald had an older brother and sister - Frederick (then 22) and Beatrice (10). Nothing else is known of his life, except that he enlisted into the army in Manchester, joining one of the "Public School" Battalions of the Royal Fusiliers. He was killed during the attack described here.

As well as his commemoration on the War Memorial at Stockport Art Gallery, his name is also inscribed on the Memorial at St George's Church.
