Samuel HALL
Rank: Private
Number: 49723
Unit: 9th Battalion CHESHIRE REGIMENT
Date of Death: 20 September 1917
Age: 24
Cemetery: Locre Hospice Cemetery, Heuvelland, Belgium

Sam's parents, Samuel and Elizabeth, lived at 18 Grenville Street, Stockport and he is understood to have lived with them until he was conscripted into the army in mid 1916. His married sister lived next door at 20 Grenville Street.

Sam was seriously wounded in the fighting described here. He will have received attention at the Regimental Aid Post just behind the British front line. He would then have been taken to an Advanced Dressing Station a few miles further to the rear. These were operated by the Field Ambulance (which operated transport as now, but also undertook basic medical procedures). Presumably, nothing could be done to save his life.
