Rank: Private
Number: 14435
Unit: 9th Battalion CHESHIRE REGIMENT
Date of Death: 23 November 1919

John was the son of Mrs Myra Shaw, 28 Chapel Fields, Marple. She had been born in Liverpool, around 1873 but, by the time of the 1901 Census, she was living in Marple and working as a charwoman. Details of his father are not known.

John's service number indicates he enlisted into the army in September 1914 and would have gone overseas the following year. He was admitted to hospital in Macclesfield, suffering from shellshock, in April 1918 and was re-admitted in March of 1919. He remained there until he died, from pneumonia.

Further information about him can be found in the book "Remembered" by P Clarke, A Cook and J Bintliff
