Harry was born in the Heaton Norris, the son of Mrs Ellen Bailey, 234 Old Road. As a boy, he had received some education at All Saints Sunday School and, later, had gone to work at Islington Mills. Salford. By 2004, the Mill had become a listed building, converted to apartments.

He enlisted in the early autumn of 1914 and went overseas on active service the following year. He was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme, described here.
