Rank: Lance Corporal
Number: 89514
Unit: 4th Battalion King’s (Liverpool) Regiment
Date of Death: 21 April 1920
Age: 30
Cemetery: Stockport Borough Cemetery

The 1901 Census showed Joseph, then 11, living at 29 Shaw Heath, Stockport. His father, Christopher, was 46 and a railway engine driver. His mother was 48 year old Emma. As well as Joseph, there were six children t home - John (then 25), George (22), Florence (18), Winnie (18), Christopher (7) and Edna (4).

Joseph originally enlisted into the Lancashire Fusiliers but, at some point quite late in the War, was transferred to the King's Regiment. He is included on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Debt of Honour Register. As such, his death must have been directly related to his war service, even though it was nearly 18 months after the end of the fighting. He probably never recovered from wounds he had received.
