Thomas HOLEHOUSE
Rank: Private
Number: 50036
Unit: 13th Battalion CHESHIRE REGIMENT
Date of Death: 7 June 1917
Age: 20
Cemetery: Menin Gate Memorial, Ieper, Belgium

Thomas' parents were living at 157 Chapel Street, Edgeley, Stockport, in 1917, but later moved to 55 Barlow Road, Levenshulme, Manchester. Prior to his enlistment , in November 1915, he worked for Mr H B Ford, estate agent, Wellington Road South.

He was killed during the Battle of Messines. At the time, Thomas was working as a signaller. As such, it is possible that he did not go "over the top" with his mates, but would have remained in the British trench and possibly killed by shellfire. It is, however, more likely that he did take part in the advance, ready to string out telephone wire once the new positions had been secured.
