Clifford HOLT
Rank: lance sergeant
Number: 33387
Unit: 2nd Battalion CHESHIRE reGIMENT
Date of Death: 10 October 1918
Age: 24
Cemetery: Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria, Greece

Clifford was the son of Mr & Mrs G Holt, Dialstone Lane, Hazel Grove. Prior to enlisting in the army in late 1915, he was works manager at the Rubber & Vulcanite Works, Newbridge Lane in Stockport.

During September and October 1918, the 2nd Battalion was in reserve areas and saw little fighting. However, at some point, Clifford was seriously wounded and in hospital. His family received news of this on 7 October. Communications between the army in Greece and the UK were good and it is likely that the news would have only taken a few days to reach the family.

Further information about Clifford, including a photograph, can be found in the book "Hazel Grove to Armageddon" by John Eaton.
