D HUGHES
Rank:
Number:
Unit: CHESHIRE reGIMENT
Date of Death:
Age:
Cemetery:

Attempts to identify this man have been unsuccessful. His name is inscribed on the Stockport War Memorial amongst those serving with the Cheshire Regiment. It is inserted at the bottom of the panel, out of alphabetical sequence and is, clearly, a late addition.

There are no men called D Hughes amongst Regimental records of fatalities, published just after the war ended. Had he died after the war ended, but before 31 December 1921, he would probably be included in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's Book of Honour. After this date, the Commission closed its records of "war dead". A death after this would be consistent with his name being a late addition to the Memorial panel which was unveiled in 1925.
