William Booth HURST
Rank: Private
Number: 14379
Unit: 12th Battalion CHESHIRE reGIMENT
Date of Death: 19 September 1918
Cemetery: Karasouli Military Cemetery, Greece

William was a Lancastrian by birth, originating from Bolton. It would seem that he was still living there at the time of the 1901 Census. However, the 1918 Absent Voters List records that his registered address was then 42 Lark Hill Road, Stockport and he had enlisted in the town, in September 1914.

He is believed to have been seriously wounded the day before he died. Click here for details of the action. William will have been evacuated from the front line and taken to a Casualty Clearing Station, some miles away at Karasouli, where military surgeons would have tried to save his life.
