Harry JACKSON
Rank: Private
Number: 2297
Unit: 1/6th Battalion CHESHIRE REGIMENT
Date of Death: 14 October 1916
Age: 22
Cemetery: Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France

Harry was the son of Thomas Jackson and Fanny Jackson (nee Stubbs), 25 Dale Street South, Edgeley, Stockport. Harry worked for the Chestergate Hat Manufacturing Company until he enlisted into the Army. His service number suggests that he was either a pre-war member of the Territorial Battalion, mobilised when war was declared, or joined up days later.

An account of the Battalion's early months of service is here. He was killed during fighting in the latter stages of the Battle of the Somme. Click here for details of what happened the day he died.

After the war, Thomas and Fanny had moved and, in the early 1920s, were living at 92 Duncan Road, Longsight, Manchester.
