Harry JOHNSON
Rank: Private
Number: 32930
Unit: 2/4th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment
Date of Death: 13 November 1918
Age:
Cemetery: Willow Grove Cemetery, Stockport

Nothing is known of Harry's private life or his military service, except that Regimental records published after the War, show he was born in Stockport and enlisted in the town.

The 2/4th Battalion was a "second line" Territorial unit which did not go on active service until 1917. Harry's army service number pre-dates this and, perhaps, suggests he enlisted in 1916, originally into one of the Regiment's "service" battalions (those formed only for the duration of the War). At some point, probably after recovering from wounds or illness, he was transferred to the 2/4th as it may have then been in greater need of replacement troops.

Harry is known to have died from wounds he had received but it is not possible to know when he was injured.
