Albert JONES
Rank: Lance Corporal
Number: 145338
Unit: 142nd Army Troops Company ROYAL ENGINEERS
Date of Death: 1 November 1918
Cemetery: St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, Seine-Maritime, France

Nothing is known of Albert's life, except that he had been born in the Stockport area and enlisted into the army in the town. He died of natural causes in a military hospital. This may have as a result of complications arising from catching influenza. There was a worldwide pandemic of "Spanish flu" in the autumn of 1918 which killed millions.

An Army Troops Company of Engineers reported directly to the Commander of Engineers of one of the British Armies, rather than, as with most Companies, to one of the subsidiary commanders. It probably carried out construction and maintenance duties for the Headquarters Command.
