In the late spring of 1897, Courtney Kenny, a paper travelling salesman, and Lily Yates married at St Thomas‘ Church, Stockport. Their son, always known as Guy, was born on 16 January 1898. When the census was taken in 1901, the family was living at 17 Sutton Road, Heaton Moor, but later moved to Hatherlow, Bramhall.

HMS Victory was a shore based training base at Gosport and Guy died whilst stationed there. The autumn of 1918 saw a worldwide pandemic of influenza which cost the lives of many millions, when it worsened into pneumonia as appears to have happened to Guy.
