Joseph LAMBERT
Rank: Private
Number: 6269
Unit: 16th Battalion MANCHESTER REGIMENT
Date of Death: 1 July 1916
Age:
Cemetery: Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France

Almost nothing is known about Joseph. Regimental records published after the War indicate he was born in the Ardwick district of Manchester but was living in Stockport when he joined up.

Some details of the Battalion's recruitment and training can be found here. Joseph was assigned to No. 2 Platoon in "A" Company. This information and his very low service number means he almost certainly enlisted on the first day of recruitment for the newly formed Manchester Pals battalions.

He was killed on the opening day of the Battle of the Somme.
