Rank: Private
Number: 18866
Unit: 1/7th Battalion Cheshire Regiment
Date of Death: 25 November 1918
Cemetery: Stockport Borough Cemetery

Nothing is known for certain about Fred, other than he was born within the parish of St Augustine's C of E Church, Brinksway, Stockport and that he enlisted in the army in the town.

The 1901 Census records a Frederick Leech, then aged 13, who had been born in Stockport and was living in the town working for a bleaching company. A number of bleachers operated around this part of the town and out towards Edgeley and Cheadle. This may well be Fred.

Fred is recorded by the military authorities as having died of wounds received, but it is not known when he was wounded. Soldiers in Territorial Army battalions were allocated six-digit service numbers at the beginning of 1917. The fact that Fred does not have one, suggests that he was probably wounded before this time
