There are various spellings of the family name in official records which makes 100% identification of this man difficult. McCumsky is how it is spelt on the Stockport Memorial, yet the inscription for the man presumed to be his brother is spelt McCamskey. The records of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission have it as McCumesky. There are further differing spellings in records of births and the 1901 Census. It seems possible that the family did not have high levels of literacy and may not have known how the name was spelt. Various officials will have had to interpret the name phonetically.

Whatever the correct spelling all the research indicates that this man was called Luke. His service number suggests he enlisted into the army around the middle of 1915. His death, nearly seven months after the end of hostilities, will have been due to natural causes and unconnected to his direct military service.
