Thomas came form Rochdale and had worked as a doubler at Harp Doubling Mill in the town. His mother, Mrs A McDermott, lived at 53 Duke Street, Stockport and he enlisted in the army in the town, in the early autumn of 1914.

He was killed during a period of duty in the trenches described here.
