Unit: No. 1 Wireless School ROYAL AIR FORCE
Date of Death: 9 November 1918

Luke Meakin married for the second time in the early 1890s. His new wife, a widow, was Elizabeth Huddart. The 1901 Census shows that they each had a child from their earlier marriage and they would have two more together. The future airman was named after his father and was born about 1894 and he would have a younger brother, Fred, born a couple of years later.

Elizabeth had died by the 1901 Census and Luke is believed to have died later in that year. It is not known who raised the children after that. In 1914, Luke Meakin got married, like his father before him, at St Mary’s Church, Stockport. His wife was Eleanor Robinson and they are thought to have set up home at 44 Edward Street.

Luke’s rank suggests that, during the War,  he was an instructor at the Wireless School, based at Farnborough. His died from natural causes. These are not known but, in the autumn of 1918, many millions died worldwide after catching the virulent “Spanish Flu”.
