Military records show Frank to have been born within the parish of St Andrew's Church, Stockport. His parents, Walter & Hannah, lived at 5 Chapel Houses, Hazel Grove

Before the War, Frank worked as a hatter at Battersby & Co, Offerton and he enlisted in September 1914, probably going overseas as early as the following January. He was killed in the Battalion's first major attack described here. His body was never found and identified and he is commemorated on the nearby Memorial to the Missing
