Date of Death: 25 September 1916
Age: 20
Cemetery: Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France

Henry had been born in the parish of St Thomas' C of E Church, Stockport, the son of Joseph and Isabella Moor. The family home was on Adcroft Street.

Not long after war was declared, in August 1914, Henry volunteered for the army. He joined the local Territorial Battalion - the 6th Cheshires - and was allocated 2953 as his service number. He went on active service with the Battalion, probably going overseas in the spring of 1915.

About a year later, he was transferred to the 1st Battalion. The reason for this is not known, but it is probable that he was wounded or ill for a while and away from duty. When he recovered, the 1st Battalion will have been in greatest need of replacement troops. Click here for details of the attack in which he was killed.
