The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records Alfred's surname as Moore, but Moores is believed to be correct. He was the son of Mrs V Clewes, 312 Hempshaw Lane, Stockport. Alfred worked for Battersby & Co and was married with two children.

He enlisted in the army at Stockport in September 1914 and went overseas the following February. He was killed during a tour of duty in the trenches described here.
