The Nelms family lived at 2 Barker's Buildings, Churchgate, Stockport. The 1901 Census records Isaac's parents as being Joseph and Sarah. Joseph was then aged 42 and Sarah was 39. Both worked in the cotton industry. Joseph died between October and December 1901. The Census also records Isaac's brother and sisters - Martha, 16; Mary, 8 and William, 11.

The family worshipped at the United Methodist Church and Isaac had been a member of the Church Lads' Club. He had previously attended Cross Street Sunday School.

His service number indicates he enlisted, probably, in early 1916. He was, no doubt, expecting shortly go overseas when he was knocked down and killed by a bus whilst cycling from Northampton to Bedford.

Isaad was buried at the Brunswick Methodist Burial Ground in Portwood and is commemorated on a Memorial at Willow Grove.
