Nothing is known about Fred Oldham, other than he enlisted in Stockport and that he is recorded as having died of wounds received. Fred's service number suggests that he was a conscript towards the end of 1916.

The village of Linselles was in German hands for most of the war and the village cemetery originally contained the graves of several hundred German soldiers. These were moved after the Armistice and, apart from local people, there are now only 34 British servicemen buried there. It is probable that Fred was wounded in the fighting that day and was taken prisoner.
