James Ward OLDHAM
Rank: Private
Number: 16220
Unit: 3rd Battalion CHESHIRE Regiment
Date of Death: 10 May 1916
Age: 40
Cemetery: Stockport Borough Cemetery

Ward Oldham was born in the parish of St Thomas C of E Church, Wellington Road South, Stockport. Between October and December 1896, he married Elizabeth Pearson and they lived at 12 St James Street in the Newbridge Lane area.

His service number indicates he enlisted in September 1914, probably going overseas the following year. At some point, he was returned to England. It is not known if this was due to being wounded or because of illness. His eventual death, however, was due to natural causes, indicated by his entry in regimental records as having "died" (as opposed to "died of wounds").
