Clifford lived all his life in the Stockport area and died before he could serve abroad in the War. It is thought his death was from natural causes. His Battalion of the Yeomanry remained in the UK, for home defence duties,  for the duration of the war and was a cyclist battalion

The 1901 Census records him, aged 2, and the youngest of three brother. His older siblings were Stanley, 6 and Norman, 5. His parents were William and Elizabeth Parr. At the time, William was aged 36 and worked as an overlooker in a cotton mill. Elizabeth was 32.
