Thomas was born in the parish of St Paul’s C of E Church, Portwood, Stockport and his birth was registered in the September quarter of 1889. As a married man, he lived with his wife and child at 72 Oxford Street, Heaton Norris.

He enlisted in September 1914 and went overseas with the Battalion a year later. He was killed during a tour of duty in the trenches described here. Thomas’ body was never found and identified and he is commemorated on the nearby Memorial to the Missing.
