Cyril PICKUP
Rank: sergeant
Number: 265482
Unit: 1/6th Battalion CHESHIRE Regiment
Date of Death: 20 September 1917
Age: 24
Cemetery: Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium

Cyril had been born in Monton, Salford but his parents, James and Margaret, later moved to Stockport, living at 54 Adswood Lane East. He attended Stockport Sunday School as a boy. His newspaper obituary suggested that he enlisted shortly after war was declared. However, his original service, 1698, suggest he may well have been a pre-war member of the Territorials and would have been mobilised when war broke out. A description of the Battalion's early months of active service is here.

At some point, he undertook a brave act and was awarded the Military Medal. Unfortunately, there is no mention of the act in the Battalion's History.  Cyril was killed in the attack described here.
