Henry Barton PILLATT
Rank:
Number:
Unit: CIVILIAN
Date of Death: 21 May 1918
Age: 16
Cemetery: Norbury Church, Hazel Grove, Cheshire

Young Henry was a Boy Scout, living in Hazel Grove when he died.

In 1901, at the time of the national census, his parents, Elizabeth and Henry, were living at 68 St Stephens Road, Nottingham. In the early part of the following year, their son was born.

During the Great War, scout troops contributed to the civilian war effort by doing odd jobs, helping with farm duties, giving directions at hospitals, etc. It was, no doubt, for this contribution, that the people of Hazel Grove wanted to commemorate Henry on the War Memorial

Henry's story is extensively told in the book "Hazel Grove to Armageddon" by John Eaton.
