Date of Death: 12 January 1921

Cemetery: St Chadís Churchyard, Romiley

Nothing is known of Obadiah’s early life,,except that he was born inN Hyde in 1873. In 1902, he married Mary Burgess at St Chad’s Church.

When he originally enlisted into the army, he joined the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and was given the service number 20084. This probably dates his enlistment to 1915. At some later point, he was transferred to the Fusiliers, perhaps after recovering from wounds or illness, it may have been decided they were in greater need of replacement troops. His cause of death is unknown but his grave is maintained as an official war grave. In itself this confirms that he was either still a serving soldier or his death was a direct cause of his war service. This may have been wounds received in action or an illness contracted whilst serving.
