It has not been possible to positively identify Alfred Robinson, whose name appears on the Bramhall War Memorial, although he is likely to be the Alfred Edgar Robinson, born in the Cheadle area in 1890. The 1901 Census suggests that he had moved to Bramhall by then and was the son of Joseph and Eliza. And he may be the Alfred E Robinson recorded in 1913 as marrying Eva Beech at All Saints Church, Heaton Norris.

It is a common name and there were many called Alfred Robinson who served during the War. 21 of them are recorded by the War Graves Commission, although none have an obvious local connection. Alfred's military service, as his life, will now probably remain a mystery.
