Joseph SHARROCKS
Rank: Private
Number: 14032
Unit: 10th Battalion CHESHIRE Regiment
Date of Death: 9 October 1916
Age: 20
Cemetery: Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France

John Sharrocks married his wife, Elizabeth, between March and May, 1890. Very shortly afterwards, their first son, George, was born. Joseph's birth was registered between September and November 1896.  At the time of the 1901 Census, there seem to be no other brothers or sisters. John, then aged, 32, was working as a labourer at a calico mill. Elizabeth was 29.

The family was living in Reddish and it would seem that Elizabeth was still living at 20 Vale Road, Reddish in the early 1920s, when the Imperial War Graves Commission collated its casualty information. John had probably died by this time as he is not mentioned in the Commission next of kin details.

Joseph enlisted at Stockport in September 1914. Click here for details of the attack in which he was killed.
