W SOLAN
Rank:
Number:
Unit: ARMY SERVICE CORPS
Date of Death:
Age:
Cemetery:

The identity of this man, whose name is inscribed on the Stockport War Memorial, is unknown.

There appears to be no-one called Solan living in the Stockport area recorded on the 1901 Census, nor is there a W Solan anywhere on the Census. The National Archives on-line medal entitlement card records that no soldier called Solan served abroad with the ASC. Similarly no W Solan served abroad. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records the deaths of 6 men named Solan - none with the initial W, nor who served with the ASC

The only indication is that the family history website, CheshireBMD, notes the birth, registered in Stockport, of a William Solan in 1886. If this is the same man, then it is reasonable to assume that he never served abroad and did not die as a direct result of his service (and is, therefore, not commemorated by the Commission).
