Date of Death: 9 October 1917

In the first quarter of 1892, Luther Stafford, a landscape gardener, married Emily Gray. They would have at least four children together - the 1901 Census records four - Fred (then 8), Luther (6), Daniel (3) and Emily (2). The family was living at 17 Harwood Street, Stockport but later moved to 37 Reddish Road.

Nothing is known about Daniel's early life. He enlisted into the army at Stockport, most probably as a conscript after he became 18. His service number suggests he was an original member of the 2/9th Battalion which went overseas in March 1917. He was killed a few months later in this attack.
