George was named after his father and the family home was at 49 Bulkeley Street, Edgeley. His mother was Sarah Jane Taylor. Nothing else is known of George’s life except that he worked for Briggs & Co, Cannon Street, Manchester. The Company was involved in the city’s fabric trade.

On the day he was killed, 331st Brigade will have been firing at German positions near Ypres and, no doubt, itself became a target.
