J TURNER

Unit: UNKNOWN LANCASHIRE RGT
Date of Death:
Age:
Cemetery:

With no information other than the man's name and his inscription on the Stockport War Memorial on the panels of those serving with a Lancashire Regiment, it has proved impossible to identify him. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records the names of nearly four hundred men called J Turner, any of whom might have served with a Lancashire Regiment at some point.

Lance Corporal James Turner was technically still serving with the Cheshires as the paperwork transferring a group of new recruits to the King's Own Royal Lancasters had probably not been fully processed before he was killed. It is possible that his name is inscribed on the Memorial twice.
