Henry had been born with the parish of St Matthew's Church, Stockport and his parents, William Henry and Mary Ann, lived at 152 Daw Bank. He was known as Harry and is recorded with this name on the 1901 Census. He was then aged 12 and was working as a sorter in a cotton mill.

The cotton mill was probably McConnel & Co, Ltd of Ancoats, Manchester,for whom he was known to be working prior to enlisting. His name is recorded on the Company's entry in the Manchester Battalions Book of Honour (page 500).

Harry was wounded in the fighting described here and died three days later.
