Herbert WALKER
Rank: Private
Number: 268171
Unit: 1/6th Battalion Cheshire Regiment
Date of Death: 2nd November 1917
Age:
Cemetery: Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany

Herbert Walker was born in Stockport and lived at 30 Churchgate. He worked as a printing compositor at the Guardian Works, Reddish.  He enlisted at Stockport and his original service numbers, 15370 and 45472, are not ones associated with the 1/6th Battalion. This suggests he was originally a member of another unit and was transferred to the 6th Battalion, sometime after 1 January 1917, when six-digit numbers were first issued.

At some point, he was wounded and taken prisoner. This was possibly during the Battalion's attack on 31 July, described here, but it is not possible to be certain. He is recorded as having died of the wounds.
