Benjamin WEAVER
Rank: Private
Number: 10683
Unit: 1st Battalion CHESHIRE Regiment
Date of Death: 25 September 1916
Age: 19
Cemetery: Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France

Neither of Benjamin's parents originated from Stockport but were living in the town at the time of the 1901 Census. His father, Arthur, then aged 26, had been born in Batshill, Worcestershire and was working as a carter. His mother, Isabella, 28, was from Liverpool. Benjamin was aged 4 and had a I year old sister, Bertha.

Regimental records show that Benjamin had been born in the parish of All Saints' C of E Church, Heaton Norris and the family are thought to have still been living in the area when he enlisted into the army in August 1914. He was probably 17 at the time and may have lied about his age to enlist. At least, a "blind eye" would have been turned. He was killed during the attack described here.
