Edward Shipley WELLS
Rank: Private
Number: 34736
Unit: 12th Battalion CHESHIRE Regiment
Date of Death: 17 May 1917
Age: 24
Cemetery: Salonika (Lembet Road) Cemetery, Thessalonika, Greece

He was born in Heaton Norris but, at the time of the 1901 Census, appears to be living in Warrington. There is no mention of his parents being in Warrington at that time, so he was, possibly, staying with relatives. After the war, his parents, Mr & Mrs Edward Wells were living at 7 Daybrook Street, Macclesfield.

Edward enlisted in Manchester, his service number confirming that he was not an early volunteer. It is likely that he was conscripted during 1916. At some point he was wounded in action and was in hospital when he died. No further details are available about when he might have been wounded.
