Date of Death: 28 October 1918

Cemetery: St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, Seine-Maritime, France

Robert Wilkinson had been born in Manchester, but lived in Cheadle. He enlisted in Stockport. Siege Batteries used the most powerful guns in the British Army, usually mounted in concrete emplacements or on railways. Little detailed information remains about the wartime activities of Royal Garrison Artillery batteries.

He is described in official records as having “died”, which suggests that this was from natural causes. He was being treated in one of the several military hospitals in the Rouen area. In the autumn of 1918, there was a worldwide pandemic of influenza known as “Spanish Flu” which claimed millions of lives. Robert was probably one of them.
