Samuel James WILSON
Rank: Private
Number: 2581
Unit: 1/6th Battalion CHESHIRE Regiment
Date of Death: 19 December 1916
Age: 25
Cemetery: Stockport Borough Cemetery

Samuel was born in Stockport and his mother and brothers lived at 29 Chelmsford Road. He lived at 17 Farr Street, Edgeley with his wife and young daughter, Lilian.

His service number suggest that he enlisted, at Stockport, into the local Territorial Battalion just after War was declared in August 1914, probably going on active service in the following January.

It is reported that he was wounded in the Cheshires' first major attack, on 13 November, which is described here. He will have received treatment in France and then been evacuated back to Britain. Presumably, he suffered a relapse and died.
