Wilfred WOOD
Rank: Private
Number: 83066
Unit: 3rd Battalion LONDON REGIMENT (ROYAL FUSILIERS)
Date of Death: 7 November 1918
Age: 19
Cemetery: Niederzwehren Cemetery, Germany

Nothing is known of Wilfred's life, except that his father was Robert Wood of 87 Brinksway, Stockport. Wilfred will have joined the Army at Stockport, as a conscript, when he became 18 and was assigned to the 59th Training Reserve Battalion (service number T4/4/40184). Before going overseas on active service, he was transferred to the London Regiment.

Wilfred is known to have died of natural causes, possibly the worldwide flu pandemic of the autumn of 1918. His burial in Germany confirms that he must have died as a Prisoner of War, probably being captured during the German spring offensive in late March/early April of that year.
