John Edmund WORRALL
Rank: Private
Number: 13085
Unit: 11th Battalion CHESHIRE Regiment
Date of Death: 3 July 1916
Age: 18
Cemetery: Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France

John was born in the parish of St George's C of E Church, Stockport. The family home was at 38 Gilmore Street where he lived with his parents. John worked as a spinner in a cotton mill.

He enlisted in Stockport in September 1914 when he was only 16 or 17 and, possibly, lied about his age. It is possible that a "blind eye" was turned to his real age as it was known that he would not go on active service overseas until he was 18. John was killed in fighting on the third day of the Battle of the Somme and he has no known grave.
