The son of John & Sarah Boon, 115 Hulme Hall Road, Cheadle Hulme, James had enlisted at Stockport. The 1901 Census records that John Boon, then 49, was a teamster on a farm. James worked as a general labourer. He had three siblings – John (then 20), Elizabeth (15) and Robert (12)

Private Boon died at the Prees Heath Military Hospital, Shropshire, probably from natural causes. The 10th Battalion was a reserve training unit and James never saw overseas active service.
