Date of Death:

The name of this man is inscribed on the Stockport War Memorial as serving with a Lancashire Regiment when he died. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission only lists one soldier with this name and initial. He is Private T W Yarwood, Lancashire Fusiliers, and he died from wounds he had received on 12 July 1915. He was born in Hulme, Manchester and enlisted in Oldham. It is not known where he lived - it may have been in the Stockport area. Or his name may have been inscribed on the Memorial by friends or relatives living locally.

Research for this project has, also, identified Thomas Yarwood who is commemorated on the Heaton Mersey War Memorial and who was killed in action whilst serving with the Manchester Regiment.Although it is impossible to be sure, it seems likely that the T Yarwood on the Stockport Memorial and the Thomas Yarwood on the Heaton Mersey one, are the same person.
