Cemetery: Menin Gate Memorial, Ieper, Belgium

Little is known about George's personal life, other than he was born with the parish of St Mary's C of E Church, Stockport and enlisted in the army in the town. His original service was 1687 and this suggests he was a pre-war member of the Territorial Battalion. He would have mobilised when war was declared in August 1914. The early months of service are described here.

George was killed in the Battalion's attack on the first day of the Third Battle of Ypres. It was Stockport's worst day of the War.
