George Edward BRADBURY
Rank: Lance Corporal
Number: 266610
Unit: 1/6th Battalion CHESHIRE REGIMENT
Date of Death: 31 July 1917
Age: 20 (probably)
Cemetery: Menin Gate Memorial, Ieper, Belgium

It is not possible even to be certain about George's age. Information from the 1901 Census and the family history website, FreeBMD, records someone called George Bradbury whose birth was registered at Stockport between January and March 1897. Assuming this is the right person, he would have been 20 when he was killed. Army records confirm he was born in Stockport and enlisted in the town. His original service number of 4219 confirms he was not an early recruit and was probably conscripted some time after January 1916.

George was killed, with many of his mates, on Stockport's worst day of the War described here.
