John Cooke was the only son of William & Nancy Cooke, The Thorns, 130 Cheadle Road, Cheadle Hulme.

He had been recovering from wounds received when he contracted pneumonia and died.

He was the cousin of Captain H Nidd, also listed on the Cheadle Hulme Memorial. Captain Nidd had lived with the family for many years.
