Bertie (or Berty) CORKER
Rank: Private
Number: 51551
Unit: 1st Battalion CHESHIRE REGIMENT
Date of Death: 25 October 1917
Age: 27
Cemetery: Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium

Bertie was born in Hadfield, Derbyshire and was still living in the area at the time of the 1901 Census (the Census spells his first name Berty). His parents, Annie and William, later moved and lived at 15 Churchgate, Stockport. He was married to Priscilla and they are thought to have lived at 108 Great Portwood Street.

Bertie's service number is consistent with him joining the 1st Battalion in late 1916, but this was not his first experience with the army. An earlier number, 30737, was issued to him in early 1916. He also spent some time in the Labour Corps (service number 112919) although it is not known when this was. He was killed during a tour of duty in the trenches described here.
